You've heard of the Plague, or, as it was known in the 1300s, the Black Death. Well that's because it killed damn near 50% of the European population in just four years. Spread by rats and fleas, estimates say that 75 to 200 million people were wiped out, and it took 200 years for the world population to recover to its previous level. Consider this the most gruesome history lesson you'll hear today.
