She was the wildcard in the relationship. But all she had to do was look at him with those big, dark eyes and he’d do whatever she asked. Even if it was a surefire way of getting them both killed.

She’d played that back-room game a few times. She said that’s where high-rollers went to throw their money around. He didn’t love the idea of her going in there wielding a pistol, but he knew she was just crazy enough to get the job done.



He’d be waiting out front with the engine running. It wouldn’t take her more than a couple of minutes to round up the cash with a little help from her new snub-nose.



The desert was only a few miles from the Strip. They’d be safe there. Or at least that’s what he thought.
